This Easter Chick basket is a simple papercraft kids can make to put a few small Easter treats in or just for fun.

They also make a great Spring craft or a handmade Easter gift with some chocolate eggs inside. The printable template is free.

This printable craft was originally published in 2014 and has been updated and reshared for today’s audience.

You can make the chick baskets in full colour or use the line art template so kids can colour their own. Card stock is recommended for printing so that your basket is a tad more sturdy (all the better for holding chocolate eggs), but paper will also work.

If you like chicks—and let’s face it, who doesn’t—we also have tutorials for the most adorable pom pom chicks, rock chicks made from materials gathered from the environment, and easy-peasy chick potato stamping.

For now, let’s get started on the chick baskets.

How to make Easter chick baskets

You will need:

  • Card stock in white
  • Scoring tool, metal ruler and cutting mat to make folding easy (optional)
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick
  • The free printable chick template – fill your details into the space provided and it will be emailed to you

How to:

Use your scoring tool to make indents along the dotted fold lines, holding your metal ruler against the lines.

I know most people probably don’t have scoring tools on hand (if not you can use a blunt butter knife instead). This is an optional step that the designer in me can’t ignore because it gives you super-clean, crisp folds.

Cut the shapes out, then fold and glue the basket base together.

Fold the tabs down on the wings and glue them in place. Fold the neck tab down and glue the head on.

Stick the handle on to finish and you’re done. If you plan on filling the basket with eggs a glue stick might not be strong enough for the handle, you may need to reinforce with a bit of sticky tape or use double-sided tape for the handle instead.
